Description

“Under the snow” shows a cluster of snowdrops pushing through the snow in a cool blue and lilac range.

What the picture shows

The flowers stand together in the middle: white bells with green tips on the petals lean in different directions, while stems and narrow leaves are worked in several greens from dark to lime. Caps of snow lie on the petals and leaves in white and pale blue, and a few dark twigs show under the drift below. Here the background is stitched solid: it is woven from lilac, blue and grey crosses that suggest drifting snow and a blurred forest behind. Twenty floss colours and thirty-eight metres of thread build up a dense, painterly surface with soft transitions.
