Description

“Tender spring” shows a branch of spring blossom in a pale pink haze.

What the picture shows

A branch of pink apple blossom runs diagonally across the lower part of the piece: the petals go from almost white to raspberry, the centres are yellow and ochre, and narrow green leaves open beside them. Higher up the branch splits into thin bare twigs with small buds that nearly disappear into the ground. The background here is stitched solid: it is built from pale pink, cream and lime crosses scattered unevenly, with occasional orange dots, which gives the effect of blurred watercolour. Twenty floss colours and thirty-four metres of thread work on exactly these soft transitions, so the piece has almost no hard outline. The branch crosses the square on a diagonal, leaving the upper left and lower right corners pale.
