Description

“Spring roses” shows two crimson roses surrounded by decorative scrollwork.

What the picture shows

The flowers are set on a diagonal: the larger open rose at the upper left, a smaller one lower to the right, with two tight buds standing between them. The petals run from dark cherry to pale pink with small white highlights that read as dew. Stylised leaves and scrolls spread around them in mint, turquoise, lilac and pale pink; they look more like painted ornament than real foliage and grow lighter towards the edges. Nineteen floss colours hold the contrast between the warm centre and the cool surround. The white Aida stays as the background and is left unstitched, so the scrolls seem to dissolve into the cloth.
