Description

“Spring pattern” shows a peacock feather curved into a circle beside a fine outline drawing.

What the picture shows

The lower half of the piece is taken up by a large feather: the shaft is worked in grey-blue, while the barbs fan out in long stitches of emerald, olive and turquoise. Near the tip the eye opens up — an orange ring around a dark violet centre, the only warm accent in the piece. The upper half of the circle is left almost empty: a second feather, a small daisy and a tiny bee are drawn there in thin outline, held by lines alone with no filling. Seventeen floss colours are concentrated in the feather. The white Aida stays as the background, so the green shape reads at once. Together the stitched feather and the drawn outline close into a circle set inside the square of canvas.
