Description

“Owl baby” shows a small owl worked in every colour at once.

What the picture shows

The figure is treated as a mosaic: the feathers on the breast and wings are laid in short stitches of red, yellow, blue, green, orange and pink placed side by side with no blending. The head is lighter, with large round eyes — a dark pupil inside a white ring — a small beak, and two tufts of feathers standing above it. The outlines are deliberately uneven and single stitches run past the silhouette, so the owl seems to glow from within. Seventeen floss colours are spread evenly over the figure with no dominant shade. The background is not stitched: in the photo it is dark blue denim, where the colours read at their brightest. The figure is tall and narrow, so the motif needs very little room.
