Description

“Merry sheep” shows two sheep dangling from a thin branch among red hearts.

What the picture shows

The drawing is as simple as it gets: a horizontal branch with small offshoots is traced in black thread, and two sheep hang below it on thin lines. The fleece is worked in white and grey with small stitches, while heads, legs and ears are black, so the figures read from a distance. Red hearts of different sizes scatter around them, some by the branch, some by the lower sheep. There are only six colours, and the whole piece rests on the contrast of black, white and red. The background is not stitched at all and the fabric stays bare, so the motif looks light and almost graphic. In the photo it is stitched on the pocket of a light blue shirt, with the fabric showing between the stitches.
