“Lightness of Being” is a cotton branch embroidered straight onto a canvas shopper.

What the picture shows

The design sits in the middle of the bag: three open cotton bolls with soft white fibres, dry brown husks and thin branches. The leaves are worked in green and olive shades, the stems in brown. The palette is restrained, almost monochrome, so the embroidery never argues with the natural colour of the fabric: the bag’s own cloth stays as the background. The cotton fibres are worked in white and cream with grey shadows, the dry husks in three browns. The kit holds 18 thread colours and 44 m of thread.
