“Feathers” is a scatter of many-coloured feathers across a pale field.

What the picture shows

The feathers lie at different angles and no two repeat: some crimson with white spots, others turquoise with a black tip, others lilac with a striped pattern, and a few very thin green ones. The shaft of each is drawn in a dark line and the barbs in short stitches that deliberately separate here and there. The ecru canvas is left unstitched and works as the ground the feathers have just settled on. Thirty-nine floss colours, 61 m. Each feather is stitched independently of the others, so the work divides easily into short sessions.
