Description

“Cat” shows a black cat sitting against the light and looking straight at the viewer.

What the picture shows

The cat sits exactly in the middle: the body is worked in dense black with blue and violet half-tones, the chest slightly lighter, the ears sharp, and the whiskers are thin white stitches that run well beyond the silhouette. The eyes are large and blue-grey with narrow pupils, and a pale arc of light lies just above the head. Behind the cat a big half-circle of light is laid in white and grey like a snowed-up window, while the long tail stretches along the dark band of the sill. Ten floss colours make up the whole palette, and the piece holds together on the contrast of the dark figure against the bright circle. The blue Aida stays as the background, scattered with small light stitches. The design is upright and fits inside a circle, so a square frame leaves a margin of plain ground around it.
