Description

“And in the basket is a cat” shows a grey tabby asleep in a hanging pot of ferns.

What the picture shows

The pot is worked in orange and terracotta and hangs on three thin cords that meet above the plant. Greenery sticks out in every direction: narrow feathery fern fronds, broader leaves with a pink underside, and small orange flowers swaying on thin stems at the top. The cat lies inside with its fluffy tail and its black rings hanging over the rim; the fur is worked in grey and graphite with clear stripes, the face pale, the eyes closed, the whiskers thin white stitches. Sixteen floss colours are split between the greenery and the fur. The white Aida stays as the background and is left unstitched, so the plant seems to hang in mid-air.
