Christmas Ornament Bead Embroidery Kit "Watermelon slice"

“Watermelon slice” is a pair of hair pins shaped as a triangular slice of watermelon.

What the picture shows

The slice is divided into three bands: a wide red flesh with a large faceted stone, a thin white seam and a green rind in two shades with a golden row along the edge. Black beads stand in for pips on the red field, and a blue drop adds a cool sparkle. The canvas is covered completely, so the shape of the slice reads clearly from a distance. Thirteen colours on a very small element are what give the juicy transition from deep red to the lighter centre. The green rind narrows towards the bottom, so the slice looks like a real wedge rather than a plain triangle. Both pins carry the same design.

This is the smallest project in the series: about 258 beads on an element of 33×32 mm, at a simple level. The kit holds two bobby pins, so the slices are worn as a pair — they look good in light summer hair. The bases and the stones are included; all that is left is to stitch and mount them.
