Description

“Spring Kaleidoscope” is a patchwork square with a pink star, green zigzags and blue triangles.

What the picture shows

There is more colour here than in the other motifs of the series: a pink centre, lime and mint patches, navy corners, pale turquoise along the edges. The beads follow every seam and at the same time mark the middle with a small pink flower of a few beads. The printed patches are left open, so the piece looks light, almost watercolour-like. The square is trimmed with a mint rim and hangs on a white ribbon. The second part of the work is a matching square with the pink centre turned and blue dots added.

Both pieces are sewn together with the padding inside and hung on the ribbon. The spring palette takes this ornament beyond the winter holidays: it often hangs on a window or above a work desk. The pattern is in colour, printed straight on the canvas. The scissors, daisies and floral paper in the photo are styling props. The zigzags are worked in one go, row after row, and it is they that set the rhythm.
