“Small snowflake” shows two large snowflakes on a white ground: one in a lilac-and-yellow palette, the other in blues.

What the picture shows

The rays are built from rows of beads of different shapes and sizes, from small rounds to elongated ones, so every ray has its own relief. The first piece combines purple, turquoise, yellow and orange beads with golden specks; the second uses several shades of blue with a pearly white centre. The white ground stays printed, so the snowflakes read as crisply as they would on paper. Both circles are trimmed with turquoise beads. The two snowflakes differ in pattern, so the work does not become monotonous.

The pieces are sewn together with the padding inside and hung on a white ribbon. The geometric design works well in a set with other snowflakes — on a window, a branch or as a gift topper. The stars, the envelope and the greenery in the photo are styling props. The rays are worked from the centre outwards, and the symmetry of the whole depends on how even the first rows are. The pattern is printed on the canvas in colour.
