Christmas Ornament Bead Embroidery Kit "Shell"

Shell is a golden seashell with a fan of ribs and pearls across its surface.

What the picture shows

The shell is shown upright, with the broad part at the top. The ribs are laid in rows of gold and sand beads spreading from the narrow base, so the form reads at once. White pearls of different sizes and several pinkish translucent stones are sewn between the ribs, imitating a damp sheen. Smaller pale beads run along the edge and finish the contour softly. There are only five colours, and it is this restraint that makes the piece look like a metal ornament. The ground is not covered solidly — print remains there. The base of the shell is narrower and darker and the upper edge is wavy, so the form is not a neat fan-shaped triangle.

The maritime theme here is quiet, without literal symbols, so the brooch works with summer linen as well as with a coat. The dish and chains in the photo are shooting props. The work is not complicated: five colours, large even areas and a little stone setting at the end.
