Christmas Ornament Bead Embroidery Kit "Purple wave"

“Purple wave” is a butterfly in a deep violet range, almost nocturnal in mood.

What the picture shows

The wings are outlined in black with fine dark beads that carry a metallic sheen. Large faceted drops in lilac and amethyst lie on the upper wings, with narrow pink-and-mauve inserts below them. Each lower wing carries a large dark plum drop edged with violet beads. The field between the stones is worked in mauve, lilac and greyish violet beads with a pearly sheen, which makes the wings look iridescent. Twelve colours, all within violet — from almost black to pale lilac. The palest lilac beads are gathered along the lower edge of the wings, which makes the butterfly look lit from below. The dark body balances that effect.

The piece is horizontal and small. The embroidery is cut out along the wing outline and mounted as a brooch; the stones, the pin and the backing are chosen separately. The stones are sewn on first and the beads laid around them — that way the gaps come out even, without stray empty spots.
