Miracle of India-A is an elephant seen head-on in festive dress, gathered from twenty-seven bead colours.

What the picture shows

The head faces the viewer: wide ears, a lowered trunk, two pale tusks. The ears are worked in greyish lilac and white beads with a golden brown edging along the rim. A headpiece with a red stone at its centre lies on the forehead, blue, turquoise and yellow rows radiating from it, and a coloured pendant hangs between the eyes. Bands cross the trunk — red, blue, green, gold — and it is they that make the figure look dressed for a celebration. Twenty-seven colours, the most in this group, work like mosaic: none of them takes up much space. The printed scheme shows here and there between the beads in a matching tone.
