“Little surprise” shows a ginger kitten in a red-and-white cap peeking out of a large blue cup decorated with a sprig of holly.

What the picture shows

The cup is outlined in several shades of blue bead — from deep navy to pearly light blue — and inside it sit green leaves and red berries. The kitten’s cap is worked in red beads with a white turn-up and a fluffy white bobble, while the ears and whiskers stay printed. The ground is pale blue with printed fir and snowflakes. The second part of the work is a blue circle with a pair of knitted mittens in pink and green stripes. The holly sprig above the cup is the finest detail of the design.

The pieces are sewn together, the padding goes inside and a ribbon loop is drawn out. An ornament like this is not only for the tree — it is often hung in the kitchen near the cup shelf. The holly card in the photo is the backdrop of the shoot and is not included. The blue rim of the cup is worked in several shades in sequence, and their order decides whether the volume shows. The pattern is printed on the canvas.
