“Little mouse” is a grey mouse hugging a striped Christmas ball, set against a warm cream-yellow ground.

What the picture shows

The mouse with its pink ears is printed on the canvas, while the beads pick out everything that should catch the light: the red-and-green ball in its paws, a second gold-and-green ornament on a thin string, and a dense orange-red rim running around the circle. The other part of the work is a pale circle with a large star-snowflake in green, yellow and orange beads. The background, the muzzle and the tail stay printed — the beads sit as accents rather than a solid carpet.

The finished circles are assembled over the padding and hung on the decorative ribbon — on the tree, a cupboard handle or a branch in a vase. The format is small, so it is a calm project for a few evenings. The twigs, baubles and sweets in the photo are styling props and are not included. The pattern is printed straight onto the canvas, so the beads are sewn over the coloured shapes without checking a chart. For a first attempt at bead embroidery that is enough to get the technique.
