Description

“Holy night” shows the nativity with Mary, Joseph and the Child on a deep blue ground ringed with copper light.

What the picture shows

The figures stay printed while the beads circle around them: blue beads along the edge, copper and gold where the light from the manger falls. That is what makes the scene look lit by a single source. The circle is trimmed with a golden rim and hangs on a white ribbon. The second part of the work uses the same deep blue base with a large radiant star in cream beads and a scattering of white dots around it.

The two pieces are sewn together with the padding inside and hung on the ribbon. This is decor less for the tree than for the Christmas table or a shelf beside a nativity set. The pattern is printed on the canvas in colour, so the order of work is clear at first glance. The ceramic figures, the wooden angel and the lettered tag in the photo are styling props. The copper beads around the manger are set more densely than the blue ones at the edge.
