“Guardian of Love” is a coral heart densely covered with white beaded flowers, like whitework on red.

What the picture shows

The flowers are worked in white beads: each is five or six beads around a central one, and together they cover almost the whole field. Narrow strips of printed coral ground remain between them — and it is they that give the piece its colour. A dense red rim runs along the edge and the pendant hangs on a white ribbon. The second part of the work is a white heart with a red floral ornament: curls, small hearts and dots worked in the same red beads.

The two pieces are sewn together, the decorative filler goes inside and a loop is left. The red-and-white pairing reads like a folk charm, so this ornament often hangs in a room rather than waiting for a holiday. There are only three bead colours in the kit, but the work is dense — there is a lot of beading here. The red card, sheet music and printed sheet in the photo are styling props. The flowers are worked in rows from the bottom up, otherwise the rhythm is easy to lose.
