Christmas Ornament Bead Embroidery Kit "Fluffy"

“Fluffy” is a red squirrel with a bushy tail, worked in a warm honey and orange range.

What the picture shows

The animal sits turned to the left. Head and back are worked in orange, gold and dark amber beads laid in dense arcs along the outline. The eye is large, with a white rim and a black centre, and the tufted ear is marked with dark beads and short bugle strokes. Lower down, on the chest, faceted inserts lie in place — a brown drop and yellow ovals, like a nut held in the paws. In the photo the tail is made from fluffy orange feathers. Seventeen colours, all warm: from cream to deep chestnut. Light beads gather around the eye and on the chest, dark ones on the back, and that difference gives the animal its volume.

The piece is vertical and small. The embroidery is cut out along the outline and mounted as a brooch; the feathers, the stones and the pin are not part of the kit and are chosen separately. The dense arcs along the back set the direction of the fur, so they are worked first and the face is left until last.
