“Fairy cat” is a cat in profile covered with an ornament of pale blue and lilac beads.

What the picture shows

The cat sits with its head turned towards you and its tail raised and curled. The body is not plain: it is drawn over with scrolls, dots and arcs in pale blue, lilac, silver and sand beads — this ornament is what makes the cat a fairy-tale creature rather than a lifelike one. The ears are large with a pink centre, and a drop stone sits inside one of them. The eyes are raised decorative cabochons in dark blue, clearly domed above the rest of the surface. A pale row runs along the outline and lifts the figure off the ground. The kit holds 18 bead colours. Inside the outline the canvas is stitched densely.

The finished piece is 78×78 mm, one of the larger brooches in the range. The level is average, but the ornament asks for care: every scroll is filled separately. It is fitted with the decorative clasp from the kit. The finished embroidery is cut out along the outline, the back is closed with a base, and the clasp from the kit is fixed to it.
