Description

“Drop of the sun” is a maple leaf in reds and oranges with a faceted stone at its centre.

What the picture shows

The leaf opens into five lobes with a jagged, uneven edge, just like a real maple. Gold beads mark the veins, which meet in the middle where a round faceted stone with a rainbow sheen is set. The field between the veins is worked in red, brick and pink beads, and dark dots along the lobe edges suggest scorched tips. A thin gold stem runs down from the bottom. Fifteen colours, all warm: from orange to burgundy. The canvas underneath barely shows — the rows lie tightly along the veins.

The veins set the direction for every row, so they are worked first and the field between them is filled in afterwards.
