“Cordial affairs” is a pale bracelet with five different hearts embroidered in a row.

What the picture shows

The ground is worked in pale blue and grey beads, and a row of white pearls runs along the edge and holds the whole strip together. The hearts follow one another and none repeats its neighbour: a silver-grey one with a metallic sheen, a pink one with a coral centre, a red one of large facets, a white pearl heart and a deep raspberry one with iridescent drops. Short columns of bugle beads lie between them. The canvas is covered completely, and the difference in textures — matt beads, smooth pearls, faceted glass — keeps every heart separate. Narrow gaps of pale blue ground are left between the hearts, so the row reads as five separate signs.

Twenty-five colours on a 154×39 mm strip make this the richest palette among the bracelets in the series, so the work never gets monotonous. The piece fastens with a hook and chain. Such a bracelet is often made for Valentine's Day, but the pink and red row also looks good with a plain white shirt.
