Christmas Ornament Bead Embroidery Kit "Bunny"

“Bunny” is a grey hare curled into a ball, with a fluffy white tail.

What the picture shows

The hare lies down with two long ears stretched along its back: one pale grey with a pink centre, the other darker and outlined in black. The face is worked in white and pearl beads, the nose marked with a pink dot and the eye with a single black bead. The back runs from white through ash grey to almost black near the paws, and that gradation is what gives it volume. In the photo a white fur pompom is sewn on in place of a tail. Seventeen colours, all within a grey-and-white range — colour appears only in the ear and on the nose. The face and ears are worked in finer rows than the back, so the head reads more sharply than the body.

The piece is horizontal and small. The embroidery is cut out along the outline and mounted as a brooch; the pompom, the pin and the backing are chosen separately. The gradation from white to black is built up step by step, so neighbouring greys are best kept in order — they are what create the volume.
