Description

“Bird” is an oval brooch with a fairy-tale bird in a soft blue and cream palette. The shape is almost round and the drawing recalls an old medallion.

What the picture shows

The bird is turned to one side: the breast is worked in pearly and cream beads, the head is pale blue, and a long tail fans out to the right in navy and emerald with gold dots along the feathers. A row of blue beads frames the upper part, with lilac and light blue below. Closer to the bottom sits a round faceted stone, and a fringe of blue and cream strands hangs from the edge. The beading is almost solid here, so the printed canvas is only guessed at between the rows.

The embroidery is cut out along the outline and finished as a piece of jewellery; the pin, the backing and the decorative details from the photo are chosen separately. Twelve colours give a soft transition from milk to ink blue, so the fine drawing does not tire the eye even on such a small field.
