Description

Adele(fragment) is a tall geometric ornament taken from a fragment of the Klimt portrait.

What the picture shows

The design is built from triangles, almond-shaped eyes and spirals that lock into one another. Red, orange and yellow fields alternate with white and black insets, and every shape has its own outline, so the ornament reads as mosaic. The composition runs on a diagonal, and in the photograph the patch is placed exactly that way, on the slanting front edge of a grey jacket. There are only six colours, but the contrast of warm against dark is enough. More than two and a half thousand beads lie in even horizontal rows; the technique is simple and the work is long rather than difficult. Small gaps between beads remain as the printed scheme on the canvas.
