Description

York shows a Yorkshire terrier with a pink bow on its head lying on a red blanket patterned with small flowers.

What the picture shows

The coat is worked as long strands of beads falling downwards: beige, gold and brown alternate so that individual locks show. The bow above is done in pink and white, the eyes and nose in black. The blanket under the dog is a red field with pink flowers, each worked as its own rosette. A frame of coloured bead segments — turquoise, green, pink and white — runs around the perimeter. The pastel spotted ground stays as print. There are 8 colours. The coat is worked from the top down, strand by strand, and it is precisely their unevenness that makes the dog look alive. The coloured frame around the edge is done last: the segments have to be the same length, or it ends up looking accidental.
