Description

With love – 1 shows two white doves on a stone ledge, with a heart and a sealed letter below them. The scene is restrained rather than sugary.

What the picture shows

The centre is a large heart outlined with a double row of deep blue and gold beads; inside, the rich blue-violet print is left untouched. Below it a third dove holds an envelope in its beak, printed as well, with faint writing on it. The ledge and the shelf are worked in bronze and gold rows, while the brickwork behind stays as print. Green bushes with crimson flowers sit on either side of the heart, and a scatter of blue and lilac florets with yellow centres runs along the bottom. The doves themselves, white feathers and pink feet, are not beaded — the beads only frame what surrounds them. Ten colours give a rich but quiet range.
