Description

Violet shows four blue flowers with lilac upper petals and yellow centres on a pale field.

What the picture shows

The petals are worked in blue and cornflower beads with a white outline along the edge and yellow dots at the centre; on two of the flowers the upper petals are lilac shading into purple. Stems and leaves are done in two greens, the leaves broad with a clear midrib. A double frame runs around: the inner one of yellow and lilac beads, the outer with small flowers in the corners. The pale blue-green ground inside the frame stays as print and is not stitched. Of the 10 colours the blue group dominates. The frame is best worked first: it sets the limits of the field, and the flowers are then fitted inside it. The yellow dots at the flower centres go in last: they are tiny, but without them the violets read as flat patches of blue.
