Description

“Vacation at the seaside” shows a red Beetle with a tower of suitcases on the roof, driven straight onto the sand. It is the first day of a holiday, before anything has been unpacked.

What the picture shows

The car is seen head-on and slightly from the side. The body is worked in red beads, the headlamps and bumper in silver and white, the wheels in black with grey hubs, while the windscreen stays as pale print. On the roof sits a stack of cases — pink, orange, black, green, blue and red — each tied with rows of contrasting beads standing in for straps. A gull perched on top stays printed, as does the whole background: blue sea with two sailing boats on the horizon, a band of sand, dry dune grass and a pale path on the left. Almost all eleven bead colours go into the car and the luggage, so they lift clear of the watercolour beach.
