Description

South night – 2 shows three white roses veined with pink against a collage of a moonlit sea and weathered planks.

What the picture shows

The flowers are worked in white and pearl beads with a pink band inside each petal; they are lighter than anything around them and catch the eye first. The stem and leaves are done in green and turquoise, with some leaves given a double outline. The background is built from several layers: on the left an evening seascape with a full moon and a line of surf, on the right a faded wooden board and a strip of lace. All of it stays as print on the canvas, and the beads sit only on the roses. The 6 colours make a restrained range. The white roses are the hardest part here: pearl and plain white beads differ only in the light, so they are best sorted in advance and kept apart. The leaves go quickly after the flowers, with long rows and simple shapes.
