Description

Lovely angel shows an angel girl in a pink dress with a wreath on her head, holding a posy of violets.

What the picture shows

The wreath is worked from pink and purple rosettes with green leaves and runs around her head in a half-circle. The wings are shown in white and pale blue beads in long rows following the feathers. The dress is stitched in pink along the bodice edge and the hem, with the hem outlined by a double wavy line. Her hands hold a dense posy of purple flowers. Sprays of lilac and pink blossom with green leaves lie above and below. The face, hair and the pale lilac ground with its highlights stay as print on the canvas. There are 6 colours. The wavy hem is done at the end: it has to run true, being the longest continuous line in the piece. The wings are worked in long rows following the feathers, from shoulder to tip, and it is the direction of those rows that makes them light.
