Description

Little Cupid shows a fair-haired angel looking out of a pink heart, leaning on it with both elbows.

What the picture shows

The heart at the centre is outlined in two rows of pink and crimson beads and stays lilac-pink print inside, scattered with small flowers. The wings are worked in white and pale blue beads laid as short feathers. At the lower right the angel holds a pink ribbon, worked as a curving line. Wide bands run along the top and bottom, where vertical columns of white beads alternate with pink flowers. The face, curls and striped ground stay as print. With 5 colours, the fewest in the batch, the piece reads as graphic. The bands above and below are worked first, since they set the frame of the design. The columns of white beads in the bands are worked to the same height — their repetition is what holds the rhythm of the piece. The pink ribbon in the angel’s hand is run as one curving line, without a break in the middle.
