Description

Happy New Year – 9 shows a bear cub in a red eared cap and scarf standing in falling snow, with a sledge and a basket waiting beside it.

What the picture shows

The red cap and scarf are the most densely stitched areas: the beads follow the shape in rows, dotted with white. A yellow bird sits on the left and a second one, with little wings, flies at the upper right. Behind stand a sledge with a wicker basket of red apples and a small green shrub. Snowflakes are scattered across the whole field in white and blue beads, and a blue drift runs along the bottom. The cub’s face and paws stay as colour print, and the background is left bare too: the 8 colours work on clothing, snow and small objects. The cap and scarf are stitched solid while the sledge and basket are only outlined, so these parts move at different speeds. The snowflakes go in last, scattered unevenly so the snowfall looks alive.
