Description

Happy New Year – 8 shows a snowman in a black top hat with two children in warm hoods pressed against him and a puppy sitting at his feet.

What the picture shows

The hat is worked in black beads with a white band, and a sprig of holly with red berries and a bullfinch is set on top. The snowman’s body is built from white spheres outlined in rows of pearl beads, with a red scarf winding round the neck and trailing to both sides. The children on the left and right wear blue and turquoise; their faces stay printed. A white puppy with ginger ears sits below. The ground — pale blue snow and white drifts — is left unbeaded, with only snowflakes and small dots added. The top hat and the scarf are the darkest and the brightest patches, and they set the rhythm of the piece, so they come first. The small snowflakes go in last, once the figures are done and the gaps are visible.
