Description

Happy New Year – 7 shows a smiling Father Frost in red beside a Christmas tree, with baubles hanging around him and snowflakes falling.

What the picture shows

The figure stands in the centre: the red cap with its white pompom is worked in dense rows, the beard and moustache in white beads, the coat in red with a golden sheen, the belt and trim in white again. A green tree with a yellow star and golden lights grows to the right. Blue and white snowflakes are scattered about, along with a red and a yellow bauble on threads. A band of pink, green and white beads runs along the bottom in imitation of festive ribbon. The face stays as print on the canvas, as does the pale ground with the threads the ornaments hang from. The beard and the white trim of the coat are the largest light areas and are best done first, while the eyes are still fresh. The snowflakes are scattered singly across the field, so they are left until last.
