Description

Happy New Year – 2 has two bullfinches on a snow-laden shrub and a third fluttering below. The ground is warm ochre instead of the usual blue.

What the picture shows

The branches are worked in bands of white and pale blue beads — that is the snow lying on top — while darker brown rows show the wood itself. A cluster of dark berries in black and burgundy beads hangs at the upper right, and another snowy branch crosses the frame beneath it. The birds' wings and heads are laid in black and deep blue beads, while their red and grey breasts stay as full-colour print. The background, warm ochre shading into yellow and grey, is left unbeaded, and the cold white branches read sharply against it. Eight bead colours, mostly cool ones.
