Description

Happy housewarming – 1 shows a green house under a blue roof with a round pink tree and a white gate, and clouds picked out in white beads above.

What the picture shows

The clouds are worked as loops of large white beads and catch the eye at once against the blue field. Roof and walls are outlined in blue and turquoise, the windows shown as white squares, and a pink heart glows above the door. The tree’s crown is a dense mass of pink and lilac beads. Below there is a grassy slope with white daisies, a path and a small yellow chick. The sky with its printed scrolls, the distant sailing boats and part of the grass are left unbeaded: here the printed ground works alongside the stitching. The 7 colours give a clean, almost childlike range. The clouds of large white beads are done last, once the house is assembled, which makes it easier to place them. The daisies below are scattered unevenly so the grassy slope does not look ruled out with a straightedge.
