Description

Happy family shows three toy hares holding on to one another in the middle of a flowering meadow, with wooden rake handles behind them.

What the picture shows

The hares are worked in beige and golden beads: long ears with pink centres, round faces with blue eyes, dark dots for noses. Each wears different clothes — red, blue, yellow — stitched in short rows. Flowers are scattered thickly below: blue forget-me-nots, purple and pink rosettes with yellow centres, green leaves between them. Wooden handles stand at an angle behind, outlined in brown beads. The green meadow and the pale patterned ground stay as print. With 11 colours this is the busiest piece in the series. The ears are worked first: they fix the placing of all three figures, and there is no shifting them later. The flowers below fill the whole band under the figures, so they are worked last, with the colours chosen from whatever is left.
