Happy Birthday – 1 shows a violin, a glass and a bouquet on a table in half-light. The greeting suits an adult celebration rather than a child's.

What the picture shows

The violin lies on the diagonal: its body stays as print — warm honey varnish — while beads outline the neck, the strings and the edge of the soundboard in rows of black and white. A tall glass in white and clear beads stands on the left, next to a golden cup flecked with red. A bouquet spreads above: red, crimson and pink flowers with yellow centres on dark green leaves. A row of pink and silver beads runs along the lower edge, and a white sheet of music lies at the bottom.
