Description

Happy Anniversary – 1 shows two open cream-and-pink roses with a bud against a muted grey-green ground.

What the picture shows

The main bloom sits in the centre: the petals are worked in white and pink beads in a spiral, the heart warm and ochre. A second, smaller rose is set at the upper left and a half-open bud with a crimson stripe below. The leaves are large and dark green with a crisp outline, and the stem is shown as a pink chain. Pale daisies stay printed in the depth on the right — deliberately left unbeaded so the foreground stands out. The watercolour grey-green ground carries no beads either. With 5 colours, the fewest in this series, the petal transitions are handled sparingly. With so few colours the petals are built from two alternating shades rather than smooth gradients, which makes the piece crisper. The leaves are outlined along the edge so the shape reads even from a distance.
