Description

Happy 8th of March (Women's Day) – 9 shows three red tulips and two purple ones beside sprigs of mimosa and white daisies.

What the picture shows

The tulips are worked in vertical rows: the red ones from dark to bright with a clear white vein down each petal, the purple ones in lilac and blue. Small dense yellow mimosa balls are scattered on the left and below, with white daisies and yellow centres among them. Stems and long leaves are beaded in green, doubled in places. The pale green-blue ground with its blurred brushwork stays as print, so the bouquet looks laid over it. The 9 colours are divided between the red, purple, yellow and green groups. The tulips are easiest worked from the bottom up, following the shape of the bud, so the petals do not look cut off. The mimosa is left until last: the small yellow balls fill whatever gaps remain between stems and leaves.
