Description

Happy 8th of March (Women's Day) – 7 shows three large hibiscus blooms — red, orange and yellow — against a muted grey-green ground.

What the picture shows

The flowers take up almost the whole canvas and run on the diagonal. The beads follow the veins: the lower bloom in crimson and deep red, the central one in orange with golden stamens, the upper one in red-orange with a darker rim. The leaves are large and heart-shaped, in two greens with a bronze midrib. The background — blurred grey-green and white brushwork — stays as print and is deliberately left unbeaded so the bright petals come forward. Almost all 8 colours go into the flowers and leaves. The petals are worked from the rim inwards so the rows follow the natural curve of the bloom. The leaves need care: the two greens here are very close and easy to mix up.
