Description

Happy 8th of March (Women's Day) – 4 shows a wicker basket of tulips and lilac, with a pale panel carrying a greeting across the middle.

What the picture shows

The basket is worked in golden-brown beads in a chequered weave, so every strand of wicker shows. Red and orange tulips with crimson highlights rise above it, with sprays of lilac and small blue and pink flowers between them. On the left and right the bouquet spills past a thin lilac border printed on the canvas. The greeting in the centre is printed as well and is not stitched — beads only trace a white and blue edge around it. The cream ground stays clear. The 9 colours hold to three groups: red-orange, blue-lilac and green. The wickerwork is the longest stretch: it is built from short alternating runs and needs an even tension on the thread. The tulips go quickly afterwards, since each takes only a few rows following the shape of the bud.
