Description

Gentle angel shows a curly-haired baby with white wings sitting among flowers and holding a blue shell.

What the picture shows

The flowers below are worked as round rosettes — red, blue, pink and white — with green leaves laid between them in short strips. The wings are done in white beads, while the hair and face stay as print. A spiral blue shell with a pale blue outline is held in one hand on the left. A double frame runs around the design: the inner one white and pink, with red hearts in the corners. Three small squares are printed beneath the frame, each outlined separately in beads. The pale pink striped ground is left bare. There are 6 colours. The shell is worked as a spiral from the centre and is the most exacting detail in the piece. The flowers fill the whole lower band, so they are worked after the figure, with the size of each rosette chosen to fit the space left. The red hearts in the corners of the frame are worked at the end, once both outline rows lie true.
