Description

Easter – 9 shows a woven basket with a paska, dyed eggs and yellow tulips against a warm ochre ground. This is a home Easter rather than a church one.

What the picture shows

The basket is worked in rows of green, red and gold beads, so the striped weave is easy to follow. Inside sits a paska under white icing sprinkled with coloured sugar dots made of tiny beads, and below it a full pink napkin built from pink and white rounds. Yellow tulips stand to the right, their petals printed and their stems and leaves beaded in green, with a willow sprig and white catkins beside them. Two eggs lie at the bottom, one yellow, one red and green. The ochre background with its soft shadows, and the tulip heads themselves, are left as print — the beads underline the shapes instead of covering the canvas. Eight colours.
