Description

Easter – 8 shows an Easter basket with a paska and dyed eggs, with the lilac domes of a church rising behind. It is a picture of the morning after the service.

What the picture shows

The printed church takes the upper third: lilac and white domes with gold crosses against a blue sky. It is left unbeaded, which keeps it in the distance. The foreground, by contrast, is worked densely — a white paska under beaded icing, deep red eggs, a gold-green basket in bronze rows and an embroidered cloth in white beads hanging down in a point. Willow branches with white catkins climb both sides. Red, green and gold flecks repeat across the lower half, while the lilac-pink ground beneath them stays as print. Eight bead colours do the work of light and texture.
