Description

Easter – 4 shows a candle, a paska and a basket standing in a burst of light that fans out from the depth of the picture. This is the solemn side of Easter rather than the playful one.

What the picture shows

The sun rays radiate from the centre in yellow and white print — that part of the background stays unbeaded, and it is what lights the whole piece. The objects sit in front of it: a tall candle in white beads on a bronze base, a paska beside it under thick white icing dotted with red berries, and a gold-and-bronze bowl with red flecks on the left. A dark green wreath and a few red berry dots run along the bottom. Willow sprigs with white catkins on brown stems fill the upper corners. The white egg with its dark cross is left as print. Ten colours set warm gold against cool white.
