Description

Dear Grandma – 3 shows a granddaughter with a bouquet and a grandmother in a long red dress in front of a shop window full of cups and boxes.

What the picture shows

The figures are drawn simply, almost as in a picture book. The grandmother’s red dress is worked in dense rows of red beads with a white collar and cuffs, and a green handbag hangs from her hand. The granddaughter on the left, in a yellow dress with white polka dots, holds an armful of red flowers and white daisies — the brightest patch in the lower half. The window, cups, boxes and grey-blue ground are left as print, with only the window frames traced in white beads. The lettering above is printed too. With only 6 colours the piece looks graphic. The red dress is the largest solid area and also the simplest: long rows, an obvious shape. The bouquet in the granddaughter’s arms and the white window frames, worked in short fine rows, take the longest.
